Bright yellow sulphur crystals often form around volcanic vents and fumaroles, deposited by the sulphur-rich gases that stream out of the ground. Some volcanoes, like Ijen in Indonesia, have beautiful but dangerous craters filled with highly acidic sulphuric lakes.
