Some Aboriginal languages may thus be among the oldest continuously spoken language traditions in the world. Oral stories in some Aboriginal cultures contain detailed descriptions of geographic events — like volcanic eruptions and rising sea levels — that scientists have now dated to over 10,000 years ago.
