The legendary conqueror Alexander the Great was personally tutored by the philosopher Aristotle from age 13 to 16. Aristotle taught him philosophy, science, medicine, and literature. Alexander reportedly kept a copy of Homer's Iliad under his pillow alongside a dagger throughout his military campaigns.
